“Slowing Time:

Seeing the Sacred Amid the Cacophony of Everyday

Barbara Mahany

In the long shadow of the autumnal equinox, as we enter into the Season of Awe, we’ll wrap ourselves in the slow, still meditative gifts that abound- even when we are too busy, too distracted to notice.

We will dial down the noise, pause amid the everyday rush, and lift up holiness. In slow time we’ll read, reflect and respond to meditative prompts that draw us into the core of autumn’s radiant blessings.

Barabara Mahany will invite us to the quietude that allows us to behold the sacred, and for one short spell of time we’ll be blanketed in a practice of paying attention that we can carry home deep inside our hearts.

Barbara Mahany is a former Chicago Tribune feature writer , author and freelance journalist who writes about stumbling on the sacred amid the cacophony of modern day domestic melee. Her first book Slowing Time: Seeing the Sacred Outside Your Kitchen Door has been called a field guide into to the depths of your holiest hours, and was picked by Publishers Weekly as one of the Top Ten religion books in fall of 2014. She published Motherprayer: Lessons in Loving in April of this year. She lives in Chicago with her husband Blair Kamin, a Pulitzer Prize winner and their two sons Will and Teddy.
