The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful nears death from sickness or old age, the fitting time to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may properly receive this sacrament.
If during the same illness, the person’s condition worsens, the sacrament may be received again. If a sick person who has already received the Sacrament of the Anointing recovers health and experiences another grave illness, that person may receive this sacrament again. It is also fitting to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing just prior to a serious operation. The same holds true for the elderly whose frailty becomes more pronounced.
If a member of your family would like to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the parish office at 773-736-6060 or [email protected].
